Farewell Alexander McQueen

I wanted to write a note to mark the death of one of my favourite designers, Alexander McQueen.

When I heard about his death yesterday I felt like it was quite a poignant moment, in the workshop with Rachel, and interns, working manically towards Rachel’s London Fashion Week show, just over a week away. Although I don’t know anything about Alexander McQueens suicide, I can relate to the rollercoaster of mad emotions, including feeling of stress, utter desperation and pressure involved in the creative process.

I feel incredibly sad and very sorry to hear of the death of a designer who’s vision and style I have always adored.

I have a very intricate pattern for a McQueen kimono jacket given to me when I was at University that I never quite got my head around making, It has numerous, tucks, pleats, folds and sewing lines! I will find the time to make it now. I think I’ll make it in latex…

He was a creative genius, although my opinion is that he's not the only one out there, just the one who got that big break and the funding to create his wildest fantasies. I hope in the search for 'the next McQueen' that someone else will be given that chance.

I loved the theatricality of all McQueens shows, but I had to include my favourite two.

Christmas fashion show: behind the scenes.

Some lovely reportage style photos arrived from photographer Dafydd Owen, who was allowed (because we adore him & his work!) into the sanctuary of the Christmas Torture Garden Fashion show backstage den, where we had our own party in between make-up, hair styling and making shiny!

The photos show the unseen superstars of the show, who worked really hard to make the show run smoothly & kept everybody looking fabulous, including Hair stylist Amanda Mae Steele, Make up Artist Sarah Jane Ellis and music maestro Craig (that's the one with the 'tache & red dress)

The show & soundtrack was produced & directed by the genius Evil Uncle Tony.

Mee! loving having someone to do my make up!

latex for Rachel Freire SS10

I'm really pleased to have been involved in talented London fashion designer Rachel Freire's beautiful Spring/Summer 2010 collection; I made latex leggings for the collection, with Rachel's awesome Leopard print lip design painstakingly hand-cut and appliquéd.
Naturally, the leggings were in Rachel's signature Silver and pewter colour scheme, with one design down the side of the leg and the other across the bottom of the two tone leggings.
I'll keep you updated with stockists, in the meantime, to get your mitts on a pair of these beauties contact Rachel via her website www.rachelfreire.com

All Photography: Philip Volkers.

Shot at 'One Foot In The Grove' hosted by MuTATE Britain. Styling: Caroline Templeton.
